Announcements

Uniform pins are being replaced after being lost with polos and shingles still being discussed. NMDP is also coming tomorrow for their presentation in IMIG at 4pm.

Committees!

Membership- Progress with high school outreach is being made and recruitment events have been fully planned and scheduled in the recruitment event calendar. We also discussed using our secret knock more often for chapter meetings.

Service- Join the card and decor channel in discord if you have ideas or want to help! People volunteered for a Kappa Kloset clean out with other service projects like stand fixing, band library organization, and practice room cleaning are still being planned.

Comms and outreach (hey guys that’s me)- Meetings on Mondays at 3:30 biweekly. Please please fill out the discord poll for planning the Kappa photo shoot (either October 4th or 11th). If you haven’t already done so please fill out the social media consent form as well!

Treasurer- (Locke was out sick today RIP) PAY YOUR DUES!!

Fundraising- Spikeball was successful and we raised $15! Merch orders and a possible Panera deal are underway. We decided to apply to become an RSO after a vote as of today!

Ritual- New meeting time for ritual members will be decided over discord after breaking away from membership meetings. We also discussed the timeline for ritual and some smaller logistics.

Historian- We are starting digitization with the Kappa Kloset and figuring out what needs to be prioritized. We also went over a review of the quiz, kappa symbols, and our rituals.

Brotherhood- The picnic went amazingly and we started off by discussing things we were grateful for. Other brotherhood events are in progress such as one before the photo shoot or a brotherhood Kahoot! Make sure to get your flu shot!

Alumni Secretary- Alumni pen pals are underway thanks to Lexi! We also went over a review of one of our alumnis Lexi Nigro.

Music Chair- Please fill out the instrumentation form if you haven’t done so already here: https://forms.gle/pYmuk7jm3asej9sV8 . There is also a symphonic concert this Friday in need of volunteers.

CMEP

We discussed what our values as a fraternity and for members are especially for our “The good member” MEP. Reviewing the phrase “Strive for the highest” we landed on our values being to “be the best you that you can be”. In addition we overviewed the Big Brother programs and talked about why it’s important for connection and how it helps through the MEP process as well as ideas to improve the program like integrating it more into some of our activities. Finally we discussed the expectations for active members being to “strive for the highest”, value goals over rules, and portray enthusiastic commitment to the chapter.

B2B

A brother to brother was had on where we stand on swearing and risky discussions in general. We decided on taking the stance of self regulate and be aware of what you’re saying and who you are saying it to. (AKA don’t be stupid ❤️). There are of course hard boundaries during ritual but during rehearsals the rules are much less strict.

Open floor

There is a new honors jazz ensemble at CU that might require some helping hands from Kappa and there are performances happening tomorrow night and October 25th for anyone looking to support your brothers! There was also brief discussion of a Kappa Minecraft server with a resounding positive response. In addition Willa has joined a social frat and expressed just how much the community appreciates and loves the band to us.

Announcements

Uniform checkout was successful and although the pins were lost in the postal system we are working on obtaining more.

Committees!

Membership- The recruitment calendar is out and still being added to with recruitment events like GBMB jeopardy and several others have been planned. Membership applications will be due November 22nd with degrees and MEPs being scheduled in the spring. Data for high school outreach has also been organized and can be added to as we gather more information from the schools themselves.

Service- Adie was out today (RIP) but you should still sign up for ensemble setup and do the service committee when to meet!

Comms and outreach (hey guys that’s me)- Meetings on Mondays at 3:30 biweekly. We are working on troubleshooting the website and the login information for members as well and are planning a kappa photo shoot!

Fundraising- New meeting time is at 12:30 on Mondays. The decision to become an RSO will be finalized next chapter with more information on the decision being sent out shortly. There is a spike-ball tournament fundraising event happening this Wednesday!

Treasurer- 85% of members have paid their dues! Please do so if you have not yet.

Ritual- Unfortunately the ramp idea is a no go because of limitations. We also discussed the idea of changing the term membership candidate to initiate and landed on keeping membership candidate as it felt more bonding. We also discussed alternate options for the star setup during ritual but no decisions were made.

Brotherhood- We have a tentative plan for a Kappa picnic/potluck on September 19th. Also discussed were other brotherhood event suggestions like pizza Thursday dinners, bingo night, and pumpkin patch outing/ pumpkin carving, Also happy birthday Mom McHale!

Yay brotherhood!

Historian- Meeting time with Comms and Outreach 3:30 on Mondays every other week. We went over the scores and answer keys from last years Kappa final and went over the terms and conditions of babysitting glory if you want to take her home.

A general reminder to be careful what we are saying in letters as we discussed finding the portion of our constitution that states the ruling on conduct in letters. When recruiting people try to branch out to sections that don’t already have members as well as follow the instagram!

Announcements

The Kappa music festival table was a success! Kellin is becoming inactive due to schedule conflicts and wishes the chapter well :(. Charlie is returning which will be discussed during next the meeting!

Committees!

Membership- Joining committees with ritual and brotherhood to discuss returning member’s education, high school outreach for next year, a recruitment calendar, and NMDP.

Service- Arranging an Odyssey themed uniform checkout (you must sign up if you didn’t help with band camp yet for requirements!), asks people to please sign up for ensembles set up, discussed getting together the band banquet planning committee, and went over the regular service projects (stand fixing practice room cleaning, band room reorganizing).

Money money money

Community outreach (hey guys that’s me)- Meeting on Wednesdays at 4 to discuss fixing the website donations issue, reaching out to more music majors and other chapters, the social media page plans, and figuring out digitization with the historian, alumni outreach with the alumni secretary, and plans with the social media crew. 🙂

Fundraising- Craig got a new puppy! He also showed us his very cool fundraising calendar here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1mYQK03CyheQMGP8mU8K0DPQbH04VuT7PsMD4iFlSCJY/edit?usp=sharing . Craig also discussed different fundraising options that have worked in the past such as Panera bread and Kappa Kappa Pie. There is a spike ball tournament possibly happening on either the 4th or 9th of September and more information is being gathered on becoming an RSO.

Ritual- Jarah gave a general overview of making Dr.Sorey an honorary member in the spring along with possibly either Emma the TA or Dr.Kaiser. Jarah also discussed starting ritual practice in the fall so that we can have lines memorized as well as have more props prepared and talked about going to other chapters degrees to support them.

Historian- Katie brought up the issues with digitizing our files and requests help from those available. Also discussed was a possible kappa final prep test to sort people into groups based on test grades.

Mini Minutes November 30th

Hello everybrother! Can you believe it’s already the last chapter meeting, and thus the last mini minutes, of the fall semester? I know you’ll all be sad about no longer getting 4 back-to-back-to-back-to-back mini-minutes in your inbox (oops…), but I for one can’t wait for the fun to continue next season… after I take a nap for about 4 weeks. Make sure not to get too stressed going into finals, and perhaps even take a break and chill with this week’s mini minutes!

The current plan is to divvy MEPs up amongst interested members, which will hopefully make them more fun (less monotonous) for the PMCs (I am endlessly grateful for the MEPs, and Ella did a great job, but there was… a lot of stuff to go over, to say the least). Bids will be sent out sometime after the end of the semester, and the membership committee will also be meeting over break. Make sure to fill out the big interest form (in #announcements) regardless of if you want a little or not!

Service

– Holiday Fest 12/6, 1:30pm – 4:00pm (get pizza and move it to Macky, then clean up; not for hours)

Fundraising

Game night will be delayed to next semester because of how busy this time of the semester is, but that gives us time to think of more things for game night and other potential fundraisers! There is one more meeting this Wednesday, and then the budget will be ready by week 1 of next semester.

Historian

Katie made a Kappa “final” to gauge how much we know about the chapter (closed note). Today, we’re looking over the constitution and hoping that everyone practiced the song (spoiler alert: uhh… jk it went great!). The bulletin board will be the first or second week of next semester.

Ritual

Ritual workday will likely be either the first or the last day of break! During this, we’ll walk through all 3 degrees, look at what supplies we have / need, assign and practice speaking parts, etc.

We also voted to accept roughly 20 new PMCs, and managed to accept all of the changes to our chapter constitution as a full slate (thank Boh…). Finally, we did an extremely beautiful rendition of the fraternity song. Thank you all for a great first semester, and let’s strive ever higher next semester!

Constitution changes are almost finalized! We will record the fraternity song (different from the hymn) next meeting, so try to practice a bit. Next meeting is also a potluck, so sign up to bring stuff! Digitization and the bulletin board will sadly be pushed back to next semester.

Ritual

Degree workday in the works before next semester (whenever people are available) to ensure that everyone knows what’s going on and to make degree run more smoothly. If you’ve ever wanted to work on a movie with a dog, talk to Jak; even if you haven’t, join (and please be active in) the ritual channel so things can get planned!

    • This is nitpicky (that’s why I’m the secretary) but technically you should use @everyone instead of @Active when you’re in a thread (the little subchannels), as @Active will cause everyone with the role to be added to the thread (and receive notifications from it) every time you use it, while @everyone has its scope contained to the current thread and its current members
    • If you’re unsure, just use @Active

Mini Minutes October 12th

Hello brothers! It’s been a busy past couple of days, but in between the 2 marching band performances and symphonic band performance, we also managed to squeeze in a pretty productive chapter meeting… that I sadly couldn’t attend in-person (oops). Thankfully, Tyler graciously agreed to take minutes for me, so I can now bring you this week‘s mini minutes!

Hello brothers! I may be a month late with these (ha), but I suspect that some of what we talked about during this last chapter meeting is still somewhat relevant, so without further ado, here are the mini minutes from the chapter meeting this past Sunday.
